Council Meeting Highlights - December 15, 2020
Development variance of shape, length and setback of dock:
Council considered a variance application for the dock at 15738 Whiskey Cove Road. The applicant is applying to alter the shape of the dock to a U shape, increase the length, and decrease the allowable setback. Council referred the application back to staff to work further with the applicant to minimize the variance request. Public comment – applicant addressed Council on the reasons for the variances.
Development variance of height of fence on retaining wall:
The applicant requested an increase to the fence height on the north property line from 2.0 m to 2.92 m and on the south property line from 2.0 m to 2.54 m. The fence has already been constructed, without the required variance approval. Council approved the variance for only the south side. Council commented that the variance on the north side blocks the lake view when using the public pathways. Public comment – contractor for the applicant spoke to why the design and construction of the north and south fence was required.
Development variance permit - 9652 Benchland Drive:
Council approved an application to vary the height of a multi-family building from 4 (four) storeys to 6 (six) storeys. Public comment – applicant provided Council with a presentation of the proposal which included visuals of the condo development built out at 6 (six) stories. Several community members spoke to Council expressing their views on the application.
