Property Tax Payment Options

View and pay your property tax notice by credit card with your MyLakeCountry account. You can also download past notices, see whether the home owner grant has been applied to your property taxes, and sign up for email billing (eBilling).

1. Login to your Property Account at MyLakeCountry.ca.
2. Select your Property Tax account. 
3. Select "Make a Payment" to pay via credit card (a non-refundable transaction fee applies).
4. Enter your payment details and submit.

If you are an online banking customer, you can conveniently pay your property taxes online.

1. Login to your bank’s website or mobile app.
2. Go to the online bill payment section.
3. Add a new payee:
   a) Search for payee “Lake Country” and select “property taxes” from the results.
   b) Enter your folio/roll number located on your notice in the account number field; omit the decimal point but include all numbers like this: 12345.678 becomes 12345678. 
   c) If your folio/roll number is shorter than the minimum number of characters required by your bank, add leading zeros before the number like this: 0012345678.
4. Select the new payee, complete all fields, and pay.
   Print or save the payment confirmation page for your records.

Online payments can take up to five business days to be processed by your financial institution. Ensure you allow enough time for the bank to process the payment to avoid the late payment penalty. 

For assistance, please contact your bank. 

Visit your bank to pay property taxes in person. Bring your property tax notice to locate your folio/roll number and amount due. Retain your receipt for proof of date paid.

Payments can take up to five business days to be processed by your bank. Ensure you allow enough time for the bank to process the payment to avoid the late payment penalty.

Visit Municipal Hall to pay your property taxes in person. Bring your property tax notice to locate your folio/roll number and amount due.

Several payment options are available: 

• Cash, debit, credit card, or cheque at the Customer Service Counter on the first floor of Municipal Hall.
  Office hours are 8:30am-4:30pm, Monday-Friday, excluding statutory holidays.
• Cheque using the Municipal Hall drop box located outside the doors facing the parking lot. Include your folio/roll number in the cheque memo.

If you plan to visit Municipal Hall to pay in person, come at least one week before the property tax due date to avoid long lineups.

Mail your cheque payment with the bottom portion of your notice to:

Include your folio/roll number located on your notice in the cheque memo. 

Allow three-four weeks for delivery. Your payment must be received by the due date to avoid late payment penalties. The postmark is not considered the date of payment.

If your mortgage company or bank pays your property taxes, your property tax notice will display a statement confirming that the company was notified. Check with your bank to confirm that you will claim the home owner grant , if eligible. The grant must be received by the due date to avoid late payment penalties on outstanding property tax amounts.

The District of Lake Country is not responsible for errors made by mortgage providers.

Prepay your property taxes through automatic monthly withdrawals with our Pre-Authorized Withdrawal Service (PAWS) and earn interest on your payments. Enrollment is only possible if you have paid all outstanding property taxes and fees. 

ENROLL IN PAWS

1. Complete and submit the PAWS Application Form [PDF/809KB].
2. Monthly payments are withdrawn from your bank account on or after the tenth day of each month, starting in August and ending in May. If you start mid-year, the amount will be adjusted accordingly.
3. The final payment is NOT automatically withdrawn from your bank account. You are responsible to make the final payment and, if eligible, claim the provincial home owner grant  on time to avoid penalties.

Payments will earn interest at the TD Bank prime rate less three percent. Your payments and earned interest will show on your annual property tax notice, and interest is considered tax free by Canada Revenue Agency.

UPDATE OR CANCEL PAWS

1. Complete and submit the PAWS Plan Change Form [PDF/237KB].

Home owners may be able to defer their current year's property taxes with a loan through the property tax deferment program administered by the Province of BC.

This provincial program provides low interest loans to pay the current year property taxes on a principal residence. The loan can only cover current property taxes and cannot be used to defer property taxes, penalties, or interest from previous years, nor any municipal utility service charges owed to the District of Lake Country. You must still claim your home owner grant  every year, if eligible.

Note: If your application is denied, withdrawn, or cancelled and the property tax due date has passed, you will be required to pay a late penalty and interest (if applicable).

Home owners may be able to reduce property taxes on their principal residence with the provincial home owner grant  a program administered by the Province of BC since 2021.

For eligible Lake Country home owners, the program provides basic grants of $770 and an additional $275 for eligible seniors, veterans, persons with a disability, those living with a spouse or relative with a disability, or the spouse or relative of a deceased owner. Funds are paid directly to the District of Lake Country and applied to your property tax account. 

Note: Any applications that are incomplete, unclaimed, or late, will result in penalty charges. Grants that are not claimed are considered equivalent to unpaid property taxes.

Please allow up to 3 business days for your approved grant to be applied to your property tax account. Home owners are responsible to check the status of their application in order to avoid missed payments and late payment penalties with the District of Lake Country.
