The District of Lake Country is reminding residents and visitors to take extra precautions while spending time outdoors as hot, dry weather continues and wildfire conditions remain elevated across the region.
Dry grass, brush, and forested areas can ignite quickly during periods of increased wildfire risk. Human-caused fires remain one of the most preventable sources of wildfire, making public awareness and responsible behaviour especially important.
"Wildfire risk remains high, and we all need to do our part to help protect our community," said Fire Chief Darren Lee. "Whether you're biking, or enjoying one of our parks and trails, please be mindful of current conditions. We are asking everyone to do their part to help reduce the risk of human-caused fires."
Residents and visitors are encouraged to:
- Use caution when enjoying parks, trails, and natural areas, and avoid activities that could create a spark or ignition.
- Remember that smoking is not permitted in District of Lake Country parks, beaches, sports fields and other outdoor public spaces. To report smoking in these areas, call
250-766-6673 or visit Service Request/Report a Problem. - Follow the current campfire ban.
- Be aware that the Province has prohibited off-road vehicles on Crown land throughout the Kamloops Fire Centre – which includes the District of Lake Country.
- Call 911 immediately if you see smoke, flames, or any signs of a wildfire within the District of Lake Country.
Quick reporting can help emergency responders identify and contain potential wildfires before they spread. Community vigilance plays an important role in protecting homes, parks, agricultural lands, and natural areas throughout the District of Lake Country.
