Swalwell Park Splash Pad to Close September 8 for Warranty Surface Repairs

District news and public notices

The splash pad at Swalwell Park will be closed for approximately three weeks beginning September 8 to allow for warranty repairs to the splash pad surface.

Following renovations completed earlier this year, including the addition of new water play features and resurfacing of the existing splash pad, an issue with the new surface coating became apparent after the splash pad reopened.

The required repairs are covered under the contractor’s warranty and will be completed at no additional cost to the District or taxpayers.

“We know the splash pad is a popular spot for families, particularly during the warmer weather, and we appreciate residents’ patience while this warranty work is completed,” said Shaun Lesowski, District of Lake Country Parks & Facilities Manager. “By scheduling the repairs for September, we were able to keep the splash pad open and available throughout the peak summer season.”

Repairs will include removing the existing surface coating, preparing the splash pad surface, applying a new coating system, reinstalling splash pad features and testing the completed work. The specialized materials used for the repairs are sensitive to overnight temperatures and need to be applied before cooler fall weather arrives.

Nearby residents may notice some construction noise during the work. The splash pad area will be fenced and inaccessible. However, other park amenities will remain open, including the playground, skate park, washrooms, parking lots, pathways and open grass areas.

Once repairs and testing are complete, the splash pad will be winterized and reopen for the 2027 operating season.
