LAKE COUNTRY, BC - The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) is preparing to conduct prescribed burning in Lake Country as part of the BC Prescribed Fire Training Exchange (TREX).
Prescribed burning may take place October 4–7 in Jack Seaton Park and at Spion Kop, depending on weather and site conditions.
The work is being coordinated by BCWS, with participation from the Lake Country Fire Department and District of Lake Country Parks staff.
What residents can expect
In preparation for the prescribed burns, residents may see crews and equipment in the project areas, including some tree cutting and other vegetation management work.
If burning proceeds, smoke and flames will be visible from surrounding areas, and smoke may linger following the burns. Residents can also expect to see BCWS-marked vehicles, firefighting personnel and TREX participants working in and around the project areas through October 8.
Prescribed fire is one of the tools used to reduce forest fuels and help reduce the potential severity of future wildfires. Similar prescribed burning has previously been completed in the Lake Country area.
Timing is weather dependent
Please note that the exact timing of each burn cannot be confirmed in advance. Burning will only proceed when weather and site conditions are suitable for safe operations and smoke dispersal.
