Council members, and key administrative staff will attend the 2026 Union of British Columbia Municipalities (UBCM) Convention in Vancouver from September 14 to 18, joining local government leaders from across the province to discuss issues affecting communities and advocate for municipal priorities.
As part of the convention, the District’s delegation has secured meetings with several provincial ministers, parliamentary representatives and key agency partners to advance local priorities and strengthen relationships with provincial decision-makers.
Scheduled meetings include:
- Ministry of Environment and Parks, Minister Tamara Davidson
- Ministry of Forests, Minister Ravi Parmar
- Ministry of Infrastructure, Deputy Minister Bobbi Plecas
- Ministry of Emergency Management and Climate Readiness, Minister Kelly Greene
- Parliamentary Secretary for Primary Care Access, Stephanie Higginson
- Ministry of Agriculture and Food, Minister Lana Popham
These meetings provide valuable opportunities to advance Council's Strategic Priorities and advocate for provincial support on matters important to Lake Country. Discussions will focus on areas aligned with the District's priorities, including infrastructure investments, environmental stewardship and climate resilience, emergency preparedness, economic prosperity, agriculture, health care access, and strengthening relationships with provincial partners to support the community's long-term growth and sustainability.
Council and staff will provide updates on key outcomes from the convention following their return.
