Lake Country, BC – The popular Lake CounTREE program is back, offering residents another opportunity to help grow and preserve Lake Country's urban forest canopy while supporting a more climate-resilient community.
Now in its fifth year, the Lake CounTREE program is a residential tree planting initiative designed to encourage local property owners to plant trees that are both FireSmart and low water users once established. The program allows Lake Country residents to purchase one tree per household for just $50 (including GST).
This year's tree selection combines beauty, resilience, and sustainability, featuring species that offer exceptional shade, seasonal colour, pollinator benefits, and strong tolerance to the hot, dry conditions common in the Okanagan. Lake Country residents can choose from four carefully selected tree varieties, with 30 trees available of each variety. Each tree has a retail value of approximately $150, with the District of Lake Country contributing $100 per tree to make participation affordable and accessible.

"Every tree planted helps strengthen our urban forest, supports climate adaptation, and builds resilience to wildfire. Our community knows how important the benefits of trees and shade are, and growing our urban canopy has never been more important. It's a simple way for residents to have a lasting, positive impact on Lake Country."
Orders are now being accepted online and in person at Municipal Hall. Trees will be available on a first-come, first-served basis until sold out. Residents are encouraged to order early to avoid disappointment, as demand for the program has been strong in previous years.
