To Lake Country residents,
I know the FortisBC gas outage has been frustrating and disruptive for many in our community - cold homes, interrupted routines, and the uncertainty of not knowing when things will return to normal. Like many of you, my family and I are experiencing these impacts at home as well. My cold shower this morning was less than fun.
In times like this, we are reminded of how connected we are as a community. Across Lake Country, neighbours are checking in on one another, sharing updates, and offering support. That sense of care and connection is something we can all rely on right now.
Across the region, FortisBC crews are working to restore service as quickly and safely as possible. If you are able, you can help support restoration efforts by ensuring crews have clear and safe access to your gas meter.
In the meantime, please continue to take care of yourselves and check in on your neighbours, friends, and family who may need assistance, especially your elderly neighbours. If anyone requires a place to warm up, the Oyama Community Club remains open to support affected residents.
For your safety, do not use outdoor equipment indoors to heat your home, as this can lead to carbon monoxide poisoning or fire. This includes BBQs or propane grills, camping stoves, patio heaters, generators, and any charcoal or fuel-burning devices. Please only use appliances that are approved for indoor use.
We know this is a difficult and frustrating time, but we will get through it the way we always do: by looking out for one another.
I will remain in close contact with FortisBC and will continue to advocate for a timely resolution to this major service interruption and transparent communication for residents.
