Lake Country Art Gallery is pleased to present HECKLERS! A Spectrum of Human Anxiety™, the 2026 Members’ Exhibition.

Like stand-up comedians, every artist encounters a heckler at some point in their life—whether a childhood bully, an imagined frenemy, or something easier to express than explain.

This year’s exhibition brings together member artists responding to that shared experience. Each has conjured a heckler of their own, forming a cast of characters that span the spectrum of human anxiety™—from the deeply personal to the broadly relatable.

Stepping inside the gallery, visitors take centre stage as the hecklers stare back. Interactive elements invite audiences further into the role of protagonist, confronting these many faces of adversity and, in doing so, becoming part of the narrative themselves.

Ultimately, like the best stand-up comedians, the exhibition suggests a shift in perspective: that these voices of doubt—once faced—can be absorbed, transformed, and even incorporated into one’s routine.

The exhibition reflects a wide range of interpretations drawn from the original member call, which invited artists to explore the “heckler” as both internal and external—manifestations of doubt, fear, and resistance that accompany creative and personal growth.
