Lake Country, BC – The District of Lake Country has completed the Swalwell Park Update Project, revitalizing a key outdoor gathering space in the Town Centre into a vibrant, inclusive destination for all ages. Friday, May 29th the community joined Mayor and Council for a formal ribbon cutting and Kick-off to Summer Celebration at the park.
As the community’s primary outdoor public space, Swalwell Park hosts year-round recreation and events. Guided by 2023 community feedback and detailed design completed in 2024, this first phase of improvements enhances its role as a place to play, relax, and connect.
Key upgrades include:
- An inclusive, multigenerational destination playground inspired by the Okanagan’s agricultural history
- Expanded splash park with interactive water features and improved accessibility
- Outdoor fitness zone with strength and coordination equipment for teens and adults
- Covered picnic area with a permanent three-season shade sail
- Pavilion and performance area upgrades, including a raised stage, storage building, exterior improvements, and year-round washrooms

The new playground features a large “giants” structure, slide, in-ground trampolines, cliff rider, and cocowave swing. Accessible design elements and recycled rubber surfacing made from BC tires support safe, inclusive play.
The enhanced splash park includes a dumping bucket, accessible water table, interactive spray features, and slip-resistant surfacing, strengthening its appeal as a summer destination.
“These upgrades reflect our community’s vision for a vibrant, welcoming Town Centre,” said Mayor Blair Ireland. “Swalwell Park is now a true destination—one that supports inclusive play, active living, and community connection, while continuing to host the events and activities that bring people together.”
New gathering and performance spaces improve comfort and functionality for families and events, including concerts and celebrations.
Funding from a SPARC BC Local Community Accessibility Grant and a BC Hydro Re-Greening grant supported the project.
The Swalwell Park Update Project represents a significant investment in Lake Country’s quality of life and advances the District’s long-term vision for Town Centre public spaces. Residents are invited to explore the revitalized park.
