The Lake Country Fire Department is pleased to announce that the LCFD Legacy Leadership Grant has awarded six members of the department financial support this year to invest in leadership initiatives that will enhance their professional growth within the fire service. This Leadership Grant offers up to $10,000 in funding to support leadership development opportunities for one or more Lake Country Fire Department members each year.
One of the primary programs being pursued is the Associate Certificate in Emergency Management. This program covers a broad range of topics, including managing a community’s Emergency Operations Centre, coordinating community evacuations, conducting hazard, risk, & vulnerability analyses, developing and managing Emergency Support Services, creating emergency management plans, disaster recovery planning, business continuity management, and effective communication in the role of a Public Information Officer.
The second program supported through this grant is the Fire Officer Certificate Program, with applications submitted for both Fire Officer I and Fire Officer II. These progressive levels build upon one another and equip firefighters with the knowledge and competencies required to supervise and lead within the fire service. Coursework includes emergency scene management, the Incident Command System, human resource management, fire service administration, and fire service leadership.
We wish all applicants awarded the grant this year much success as they continue to enhance their knowledge and build a strong foundation in preparation for future leadership roles.
It is the long-term vision that, as the endowment grows, the Lake Country Fire Department Legacy Leadership Fund will continue to support applicants annually. Community members and organizations are also invited to contribute to this fund, managed through the Central Okanagan Foundation, to expand future opportunities.
