Lake Country sparks community action on FireSmart principles and emergency preparedness at FireSmart Open House event Saturday, May 30

Lake Country Fire Department extends an open invitation to attend a fun family day of emergency preparedness education. Join your neighbours and bring the whole family to participate in the activities the local first responders have planned for you, grab a hot dog, and learn some FireSmart tips to protect your home -- all at one free, family event.

Join us at the Lake Country Fire Department FireSmart Open House

Saturday, May 30, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

at Station 71 located at 11063 Okanagan Centre Road East.

Free family activities include:

  • Fire Hall tours
  • Children’s obstacle course and Fire Safe House 
  • Fire extinguisher training 
  • Tips on preparing for and protecting your home from wildfires 
  • Learn more about FireSmart actions you can take to make your property more wildfire resilient and sign up for a free residential wildfire mitigation assessment 
  • Information on household emergency preparedness 
  • Check out the fire engines and equipment on display, meet Sparky the Fire Dog, Ember the Fire Fox, local firefighters, BC Emergency Health Services paramedics, and Search & Rescue volunteers
  • RCMP Traffic Officer will be providing free vehicle, motor bike, e-bike, helmet, and car seat inspections, along with safety recommendations 
  • Hot dogs served by Lake Country Rotary Club (while supplies last)

The Lake Country Fire Department is looking for dedicated community members to join its paid-on-call team at any of its three stations. Stop by during the open house to learn more about what it takes to serve, train, and respond alongside your local firefighters while helping protect the community you call home.
