We're excited to invite you to our FireSmart Day & Open House – a free, family-friendly event where you can explore the new Fire Hall, meet your local Lake Country firefighters, enjoy hands-on activities, and learn valuable tips to help protect your home from wildfires.
Time: 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM
Location: Station 71, Winfield (11063 Okanagan Centre Road East)
What to Expect:
- Free Hot Dogs: served by the Lake Country Rotary Club – while supplies last!
- FireSmart Info Booth: chat with us about simple, effective actions you can take to make your home and property more wildfire resilient - especially as wildfire and wind-blown ember risks continue to grow in the Okanagan.
- Fire Safety House: practice emergency exit drills from the house in a fun, interactive setup.
- Operate a Fire Hose: kids will have the opportunity to knock down a target with a water stream.
- Fire Extinguisher Training: learn how to use a fire extinguisher safely and effectively.
- Keiser Forcible Entry Machine: test your strength on our firefighter training equipment!
- Wildfire Preparedness Tips: get expert advice on how to prepare and protect your home.
- Emergency Preparedness Info: learn about smoke alarms, household readiness, and evacuation planning.
- Equipment Displays: check out fire engines, the Marine Rescue Boat, the Wildfire Sprinkler Protection Trailer, and other specialized gear. Don’t forget to snap a photo with Sparky the Fire Dog and our team!
- Meet Our Safety Partners: speak with representatives from BC Ambulance, Bylaw Services, RCMP, Central Okanagan Search and Rescue, and the Salvation Army about their roles and community contributions.
- Regional Emergency Program Info: learn more about Emergency Support Services, the Regional Emergency Program, and ALERT (Animal Lifeline Emergency Response Team).
