Yellow Heat Warning in Effect for Lake Country

Type(s)
District news and public notices

A heat warning remains in effect for the Okanagan, including Lake Country, with daytime temperatures expected to reach above 35°C and limited overnight cooling.

While hot summer weather is common in the Central Okanagan, prolonged exposure to high temperatures can lead to heat exhaustion, heat stroke, and other heat-related illnesses.

Protect Yourself from the Heat

Interior Health and PreparedBC recommend residents:

  • Drink plenty of water and other fluids throughout the day.
  • Reduce strenuous activities, especially during the hottest hours.
  • Seek cooler indoor or shaded outdoor spaces.
  • Use air conditioning if available.
  • Take cool showers or tepid baths.
  • Wear a damp shirt or apply cool, wet towels to your skin.
  • Watch for signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

Check on Others

The District of Lake Country encourages residents to check in regularly on neighbours, friends, and loved ones, particularly seniors, people living alone, and those with health concerns who may be more vulnerable to extreme heat.

Non-emergency wellness checks for seniors can be arranged through Lake Country Health. Contact 778-215-5247 or visit lakecountryhealth.ca for more information and available support services.
