BC Hydro will be undertaking electrical infrastructure work in Lake Country, which will result in temporary traffic impacts along Beaver Lake Road and Glenmore Road.
The District of Lake Country is advising residents, commuters, and businesses that BC Hydro’s contractor, Pacific Electrical Installations, will be completing this work in coordination with the District to minimize disruption where possible.
Project Overview
A contractor for BC Hydro will be replacing power poles along Beaver Lake Road and Glenmore Road to improve system redundancy and reduce the risk of future power outages. This work is essential to maintaining reliable electrical service for the community.
Traffic Impacts:
- Westbound lane closure on Beaver Lake Road
- Dates: Monday, January 26 to Friday, February 13, 2026 (weekdays)
- Time: 5:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Monday to Friday. After 2:00 p.m. daily regular traffic flow will resume
Detours will be in place along Bottom Wood Lake Road and McCarthy Road to access Highway 97 and bypass the work zone. Although not ideal, the work is scheduled during a low‑traffic period to minimize disruption.
Traffic control personnel will be on site throughout the project area, including the nearby roundabout, to maintain safe traffic flow for motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians.
Pedestrians and cyclists will be escorted around the work area as needed, and additional RCMP enforcement will support public safety.
Public safety remains the top priority for this project.

Questions and Answers
- Why does this work need to be done now?
This is urgent infrastructure work required to replace aging power poles, create redundancy in the electrical system, and reduce the likelihood of future power outages. - Why can’t the work be done at night?
Completing this work overnight would significantly extend the project duration and increase safety risks for workers and the public due to reduced visibility and complex traffic control requirements. - Why is traffic so impacted in this area?
This project highlights the challenge of having a single access point into the busy City of Kelowna industrial area. The District recognizes this limitation and is actively working on future connection and access planning further south to improve long-term mobility and resilience. - How are pedestrians and cyclists being accommodated?
Pedestrians and cyclists will be safely guided through or around the work zone by on-site traffic control personnel to ensure safe passage at all times. - Will BC Transit be affected?
BC Transit riders will not experience a service disruption; however, delays less that 5 minutes may occur during the affected hours. BC Transit or the District of Lake Country will post signs at affected stops if delays are exceeding this threshold. - What can the public do to help reduce congestion?
Motorists are encouraged to: - Plan trips in advance
- Use alternate routes when possible
- Allow extra travel time during the morning and early afternoon
- Follow directions from traffic control personnel
