Lake Country, BC – The District of Lake Country is thrilled to announce the start of significant upgrades to Swalwell Park, scheduled to begin this Spring. As the primary outdoor public gathering space in Lake Country’s Town Centre, Swalwell Park hosts a variety of recreational and cultural activities, drawing people from across the community with its skate park, spray park, and performance stage.
Based on community feedback from 2023, the District developed a concept design for park improvements and new trail connections along the Middle Vernon Creek corridor. Detailed design work was completed in 2024, leading to the identification of this initial construction phase. This project is a key component of the broader vision to enhance parks, trails, and public spaces in Lake Country’s Town Centre.
Upgrades to Swalwell Park in 2025 include:
- A new inclusive destination playground welcoming children of all abilities
- Enhancements to the existing splash park for summer fun
- An outdoor fitness area for teens and adults to challenge themselves
- A shade sail structure and site furnishings for gatherings in the park
- New pathways for improved circulation and accessibility
“These improvements are a significant step forward in our goal to build a vibrant and sustainable Town Centre,” said Mayor Blair Ireland. “By investing in green spaces, inclusive play, and active transportation, we are creating places where residents and visitors can connect, be active, and enjoy the natural beauty and dynamic vitality of Lake Country.”
Construction is expected to begin mid-May 2025 and finish by November 2025. To ensure safety, fencing will go up the week of May 20th, and site preparation will start with the removal of the backstop and infield shale on the ball field at the southeast corner of the park. Ball diamond users are encouraged to use alternate fields at Jack Seaton Park or behind Winfield Arena. The Trethewey Splash Park will remain operational for the 2025 season and will close for renovations after the Labour Day long weekend. The Live! in Lake Country free summer concerts and the Friday Farmers’ Market will continue as scheduled at Swalwell Park during July and August.
