Lake Country, B.C. – Construction is now underway on Phase 1 of the Lake Country Community Centre at 9718 Bottom Wood Lake Road, marking a significant milestone in delivering a new recreation and community space for Lake Country residents.
Phase 1 will transform approximately 27,000 square feet of former industrial space adjacent to Winfield Arena into a flexible, multi-use facility that supports recreation, events, and community connection.
Once Phase 1 is complete, the facility will include:
- A gymnasium and fitness space
- An indoor artificial turf field
- A multi-purpose program room
- A community gathering and event space
- Washroom and changeroom facilities
- Supporting storage and operational amenities
This project responds to a growing need for recreation and gathering space identified through the Lake Country Sport and Recreation Needs Assessment, Community Centre Feasibility Study, and community engagement process.
“Lake Country residents consistently told us they wanted more opportunities to gather, stay active, and connect,“ said Matt Vader, Director of Parks, Recreation and Culture. “Phase 1 delivers on those priorities while laying the foundation for a larger recreation hub that can continue to evolve alongside our community.”
The new facility will serve as a long-term community asset, supporting recreation, fitness, programs, events, and social connection for residents of all ages. By adaptively reusing the former cold storage facility, the District can bring these amenities online sooner while making efficient use of an existing building.
The District will continue to share project updates as construction progresses.
