If your primary place of residence is in B.C. and you own the home, you may be eligible for a reduction in your annual property taxes—potentially saving $770 or more—through the BC Home Owner Grant. You must apply each year for the grant through the BC Government - not your local municipality.

To be eligible for this year’s grant, you must:

  • Be the registered owner of the residence (or a spouse or relative of the deceased owner)
  • Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada
  • Live in B.C.
  • Occupy the residence as your principal residence

To avoid late fees, make sure to apply for the grant and pay your property taxes by July 2.

There are a few easy ways to submit your application:
• Online at gov.bc.ca/homeownergrant
• In person at a Service BC location (Vernon or Kelowna are the closest offices)
• By phone at 1-888-355-2700

Have your Social Insurance Number and property tax notice with you during the application process.

Provincial Program
Since January 2021, the BC Government—not local municipalities—manages Home Owner Grant applications. To claim your grant, you must apply directly through the BC Government.
