We want to hear from you.

Mayor Baker believes municipal government should focus on service. All constituents doing business with the municipality must be treated fairly, respectfully, efficiently and courteously. Local government must conduct business openly and honestly. Freedom of Information applications should not be required to discover what local government has done or is doing. The public should be involved in the broadest way possible in all aspects of all municipal policies, procedures and projects.

Council includes a 15 minute public comment session in each Regular Council Meeting so Mayor and Council can hear your concerns, questions and feedback. Everyone is welcome to attend and participate.

Public Hearings on specific bylaw changes and applications are advertised in the Lake Country Calendar newspaper published every Wednesday. If you feel a bylaw or application will affect you, please come speak at the Public Hearing held at Municipal Hall, email development@lakecountry.bc.ca or write to Mayor and Council at 10150 Bottom Wood Lake Road, Lake Country, BC V4V 2M1.

Major community plans and special projects usually include a public engagement component so you can learn what is happening and have your say on ideas and options. Watch for information on the District Facebook page or in the news. Get involved and have your say!

There are three ways to speak to Council at a Regular Council Meeting.

Petitions

You can submit a petition to Council at a meeting or send it by mail to 10150 Bottom Wood Lake Road, Lake Country BC V4V 2M1. Include the full name, address and phone number of everyone that signs it.

Present as a delegation

You can apply to speak before council by emailing Corporate Services your name, what you would like to discuss and any other background information. You will have a maximum of ten minutes to speak.

Public Comment

You can speak for up to three minutes during the Public Comment item on the agenda.

Rules for effective and respectful meetings

In order to have productive meetings and productive debate, the Council of the District of Lake Country abides by the following meeting guidelines:

  • Order - one person only may speak at any given time; the Mayor is the only one that may invite the public, Council or staff to speak
  • Focus - stay on topic
  • Efficiency - be respectful of other speakers' needs to present their point of view
  • Equality - all attendees must have an equal opportunity to speak when appropriate
  • Decorum - there will be no heckling, clapping, booing, cheering, signs, silent waving, etc.; remain civilized and respectful
  • Safe Environment - participants must be permitted to share unpopular but necessary points without fear

Regularly scheduled council meetings are televised through Shaw Cable TV, so if you speak you will be on TV. Your name will also be in the minutes, which are available on our website.
