Fall is here! The weather is getting cooler, and the leaves are changing colors. Fall also brings on what many might not think about -- most visitors and tourists have left the community. Lake Country businesses rely heavily on locals from throughout the central Okanagan along with visitors and tourist in order to be successful.

The month of August was difficult for businesses throughout the Okanagan. Not only because of COVID restrictions but the smoke from the wildfires adversely impacted what normally is one of the busiest months of the year. Everyone has a role to play in making sure our businesses succeed and stay in the community for many years to come. Before getting in your vehicle to travel to another community to pick up produce, baked goods, flowers, wine or that special gift, think about how you can support local businesses and keep dollars in our home community.

Everyone loves a contest!

Beginning this week, you will notice fun new photo op cut-out signs showcasing the Lake Country lifestyle and supporting local businesses including agriculture and tourism. These signs are made possible by an ETSI-BC grant that is being used to promote local businesses related to agriculture throughout the community. Check out the signs at Swalwell Park; Woodsdale Packing house Park (by the Okanagan Rail Trail behind the tennis courts) and Oyama boat launch. Round up your friends or family to take some entertaining pictures. Post the pics on your social media accounts and use the hashtag #SipEatShopBe to show your support for Lake Country businesses. Enter as many times as you like. Contest closes November 1st – when four (4) winners will be drawn to each receive one (1) fifty-dollar ($50) gift certificate for a Lake Country business of their choice!
