Great news Lake Country: as of Tuesday morning, all Lake Country properties will be removed from evacuation alert. The Clarke Creek wildfire has been classified as under control and due to the hard work of our firefighters and BC Wildfire, I’m thankful we can start to get back to a normal routine. Please refer to cordemergency.ca for status updates.

I’m so appreciative of our community who supported one another to get through a very stressful time. Many of our local businesses gave up their time and even provided food to firefighters or those in need. Let’s make sure to support them as they get back to normal business. Over the weekend, I visited several of our Farm Gate locations. They are full of great produce, there is lots to choose from. Shop local, support the Farmer’s Market, the Farm Gate Trail and head out to your favorite Lake Country restaurant. They need us more than ever. We’ve had an overwhelming show of support from the community with donations to the Lake Country Food Bank. For those who are looking how best to help, please consider regular donations to the Food Bank. They do such a great job of getting produce and non-perishables to those who need it most.

It’s important that we continue to respect the closures in affected areas. Stay out of the closed park areas and forests – it’s dangerous. Crews are working hard to ensure that these areas are safe for residents to visit. Please use common sense and don’t take risks – it’s not worth it.

As I’ve said many times before, I’m so proud to live in a great community with great people. Thank you Lake Country, for making our home such a great place to live. I’m looking forward to seeing many of you at the Community Appreciation party on Sept 15th at Swalwell Park.

With gratitude,

Mayor Ireland
