Lake Country, BC – Residents and visitors enjoying the beaches, hiking trails, Okanagan Rail Trail and Farmers Market will notice the new Lake Country Mobile Visitor Centre (MVC) this summer in the community.

The District of Lake Country is excited to award the contract to pilot the MVC to Tourism Kelowna. The contract includes managing and staffing the MVC with local Lake Country talent. The MVC will be located at various high traffic spots in the community beginning mid May until September 2022. The District of Lake Country and Tourism Kelowna have successfully worked together for several years on different initiatives, most notably Tourism Kelowna has a memorandum of understanding to perform the District’s destination marketing activities.

“Tourism and the way locals and visitors travel and make plans has rapidly evolved since the pandemic” says Mayor James Baker. “Most locals and visitors spend time researching activities and planning out the day using available on-line information before arriving at any destination. Once they arrive at a specific location, such as the beach or walking trail, they could require additional information from a friendly local expert. Having local experts will make everyone’s Lake Country experience that much better.”

"We are excited to have the opportunity to provide mobile visitor services to Lake Country’s businesses, residents, and visitors." says Chris Lewis, Director of Community & Visitor Engagement with Tourism Kelowna. "We see an opportunity to help enhance both resident and visitor experience in the community at local events and tourism hotspots. It is important to incorporate a sense of place and we are looking forward to working with locals to highlight experiences in their community, and to share it through the mobile visitor centre."

Beginning in May locations of where to find the MVC will be posted on the soon to launch Visit Lake Country website along with the Tourism Kelowna website. Be sure to subscribe to Lake Country news lakecountry.bc.ca/subscribe to have District information sent directly to your inbox.
