Okanagan Lake Pumphouse Upgrade Project - Nears Completion
In October 2020 the District began upgrades to the Okanagan Lake pumphouse. The project was identified in the water masterplan and included increased pumping capacity, a new ultraviolet treatment system and chlorine disinfection system in addition to electrical upgrades. As a result 2,800 customers who normally receive water from Okanagan Lake were temporarily switched over to the Beaver Lake water source.
Upgrades to the Okanagan Lake pumphouse were successfully completed during the first week of March. Operators are now busy testing and monitoring the facility. Properties that normally receive water from Okanagan Lake through this facility will be transitioning back to Okanagan Lake water source throughout the month of March. Transitioning from one water supply to another is a lengthy process and as some of the water in the distribution system supplied to your home or business might still be from Beaver Lake, it is important to note that the water quality advisory is anticipated to remain in effect until the week of March 26th.
The water quality advisory will stay in effect for properties who are permanently on the Beaver Lake water source. To find out which water source services your property, you can see water source details on the District of Lake Country MyWater GIS map.
Water quality is strictly regulated through Interior Health Authority and the District of Lake Country takes the provision of drinking water to the community very seriously.
