No new firehall in sight for LCFD

Posted on Tuesday, July 30, 2013 09:00 PM

When an emergency response is needed in Lake Country, the Lake Country Fire Department (LCFD) is quick to be on the scene whether it is a fire in a heavily populated or remote area of the community, a land slide, a motor vehicle accident, a health emergency, or an industrial incident.

Despite using an on-call fire crew, one of the factors that contribute to their quick response is the close proximity of the local fire halls to the residents, businesses and visitors that call 911 to summon their assistance....

Lake Country and the Federal Budget

Posted on Wednesday, April 17, 2013 09:00 PM

Many things are happening in Lake Country, but I wish to focus on some of the positive effects that the recently approved Federal Budget will bring to us as a community and to all local governments in Canada.

Lodge Road repaving and traffic improvements, the renaming of the Highway 97 stretch along Wood Lake to Pelmewash Parkway, the progress of the Kalamalka Lake Water project to...

A Day in the Life of a Snowplow Operator

Posted on Thursday, December 20, 2012 09:00 PM

When winter hits the Okanagan, men and women in many communities are ready to jump into their snowplows and sanding trucks day or night to keep our many kilometers of roadways clear and open to traffic. They're called into action whenever there are one or more inches of snow on the ground or when the highways become icy.

On bitterly cold winter nights or very early mornings while most of us are tucked snugly in bed, phones will ring and pagers will buzz to send many of our neighbours, friends and...
