New highway opens new opportunities

Posted on Thursday, August 29, 2013 09:00 PM

The new stretch of Highway 97 which opened in Lake Country on Friday, August 16, 2013 provides new opportunities for the whole community and region in many ways.

In terms of transportation, the four-lane section of highway, 9 kilometers in length, will provide safer and even slightly faster drive to and from Vernon. I believe the 2013 Federal Budget is an important step forward for Lake Country. It is clear that the government chose to continue moving all Canadian communities ahead even as it meets its immediate fiscal challenges.

Of particular significance in this context, is the government's decision to...

Council Approves 2013 Lake Country Budget

Posted on Thursday, February 07, 2013 09:00 PM

After two days of deliberations, Lake Country Council approved the 2013 Budget at a Special meeting held on Thursday, February 7th. The good news is that, thanks to the recent reorganization and business systems review, the budget we have direct control over actually decreased. The not so good news is that the cost of contracted services with the RCMP and the recent transit service expansion impacted the budget by an equivalent 2.65% tax increase. In order to cover these increases and all other impacts,...
