Water Quality Monitoring
The District of Lake Country utilizes 4 surface water sources. The upland Drinking water reservoirs are Beaver (Swalwell) Lake and Oyama Lake and the lower elevation reservoirs are Okanagan Lake (2 intakes) and Kalamalka Lake (1 intake). The raw water sources are sampled for nutrients, physical water chemistry and bacteriological content. The chlorinated distribution systems are closely monitored to ensure physical water chemistry is within the Canadian Drinking Water Guidelines and that adequate disinfection levels are maintained throughout the systems. Bacteriological samples (total coliforms and E.coli) are regularly collected as per Schedule B of the Drinking Water Protection Act.
