Mayor James Baker, MP Ron Cannan and MLA Norm Letnick officially opened six new change rooms at the Winfield Recreation Centre on Saturday, February 27. This expansion allows more people to enjoy the facility and includes innovative green building technologies.
Funding for Phase 2 was received through the Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund, which provided up to $2 million in Provincial and Federal funds, with an additional $1 million provided by the District of Lake Country.
“These new dressing room will make it easier for the families and athletes to use the arena,” say Mayor James Baker, “and allow more residents to take advantage of this great facility in our community.”
The athletic facility is managed by the District of Lake Country Parks and Recreation Department and these improvements are part of a long-term planning strategy to address the District’s present and future recreation needs. The facility embodies many contemporary sustainable building strategies, including reducing the number of finishes, high-efficiency mechanical and electrical equipment, and plenty of natural light wherever possible.
