Boil Water Notice in effect March 2, 2010
Lake Country
2/17/2010
In cooperation with the Interior Health Authority, the District of Lake Country is reinstating the Boil Water Notice (BWN) on the Wood Lake Water System – Oyama Lake Source, the east side of Wood Lake .
Why has a BWN notice been reinstated? The primary reason is due to forecasted melt (freshet) that could potentially decrease water quality in Oyama Creek. Additionally, on March 2nd a mainline repair will be taking place that could potentially increase turbidity in the distribution system. This precautionary BWN is necessary as increased bacterial loading into the water during freshet could potentially supersede the District’s ability to effectively chlorinate the water. Currently all bacteriological testing results are satisfactory and disinfection (chlorine) levels are stable however, increased bacterial loading could change this status at any time.
How long will the BWN last? It is expected to remain in effect until freshet is complete, all bacterial testing results are satisfactory and disinfection (chlorine) levels are stable. Notification of change in water status will be advertised.
What Should I Do? The District of Lake Country and Interior Health recommend that ALL customers in the affected area drink boiled water or a safe alternative. Water intended for drinking, washing fruits and vegetables, making beverages or ice, or brushing teeth should be boiled for one minute. Boiled water should then be refrigerated in a clean, covered container. Customers could also choose to use bottled or distilled water, or water that has been filtered through a well-maintained treatment device.
We appreciate your cooperation and patience during this time. For further information, please check our website at www.lakecountry.bc.ca.
